A Lesson In Appreciation

I was reading a blog titled Sunny Simple Life and Elaine was talking about cleaning up the oranges from her back yard tree.  In January, she is picking oranges and I am sitting indoors while a cold drizzle falls outside.  I am actually jealous of Elaine.  These are her oranges and you can hear all about them by clicking on the title of her blog. ~

I walk to the patio door to see if the weather has improved and this wondrous sight appears. ~

I grab my camera and head out into the yard.  The arbour wears a crown of white. ~

The raspberries bow their heads in the silence. ~

Even the lines of the farm fencing are softened. ~

The river keeps it's own council in the dusky eve. ~

I circle back to the front of my house and pass these silent sleepers under their covers of down. ~

They sleep under the watchful eye of the steeple. ~

The flurries pick up and it looks as if mist is covering the land. ~

Back again to my own dear, little home. ~

Night has fallen and the camera flash turns snowflakes into a veil of diamonds that glitter in the trees and are jewellery for my home.

Though the camera is old and simple, not one of these photos needed to be doctored.  The beauty of the evening simply was.

Elaine has her sunshine and oranges and I have my silent, snow covered evening.  We are both lucky in what we have and I intend to appreciate this wonderful place called home!

Have a day filled with appreciation!

I'm sharing this with ~

  1. Oh Maureen, that is so beautiful! I would love to live through one winter of snow. I have lived in FL all my life and our sons, now 18 and 20 have never seen snow. I've only seen it a few times. Those pictures are just gorgeous and the way you wrote about your sites was so enlightening.

  2. I hear you... me too; I'm jealous of Elaine! To live in an orange grove!--it sounds lovely to me. I don't like winter and cold, but have to admit your winter wonderland pics are just amazing... so lovely.

Thanks for participating in our Show Off Your Cottage Monday and bringing me here.. Blessings

  4. This is beautiful. Funny how we all yearn for what we aren't living in. I imagine how charming a snow covered landscape would be and you long for warmth and sunshine. I guess it is a bit of the grass is always greener. We have to be be content with where we are for sure even though at times it is a struggle to do so. I have to work on that a lot. I am in awe of the charm of your surroundings. So pretty and quaint. Thanks for linking to my post. Very sweet of you.

  6. Anne, you don't want photography lessons from me. I haven't the foggiest idea what I am doing and the camera is only 3 pixels. I think it is the subject matter that rises above my inept efforts!

Love the pictures. My word for this year is APPRECIATION and I took the time to appreciate the wonder of our snow storm. It helps that the sun is shinning brightly today.

  16. These photos are just magical! That's the kind of snow scene I love the most. And though we'd all love to pick oranges off the tree, I remember missing snow when I lived in California!

  21. The snow is so pretty and I love the way things are always so muffled when it is snowing. But I am kinda glad the daffs and snowdrops and other bulbs are making themselves known here where I live...spring is on it's way.
