Getting What You Need, When You Need It!

I have been working away at cleaning up my rental property since last Thursday.  My sister and brother are partners in this property and both had heavy commitments over the weekend, so I soldiered on myself on the days they couldn't be here.

I keep searching for the positive in this situation.  I focused on how surprised and pleased my partners would be that so much was accomplished while they were away.  I read all your kind comments of sympathy and support.  I tried my best to not let bitterness settle on my heart over all the tenant had done.  I wanted to forgive her and move on!

On Sunday, friends spontaneously showed up, armed with cleaning supplies.  Wendy cleaned all the windows and that took some doing!  Dan fixed broken kitchen cabinetry and killed the biggest spider this side of the equator!  As much as the actual work was appreciated, it was the kindness that I needed at that moment.

I joined them at their home, that evening, to watch a TV show.  I don't have TV and there was something I particularly wanted to see.

What could bring one daughter from her farm and the other daughter from Brooklyn, to Toronto for the weekend?

Emerald, front row seat tickets, sent straight from Harpo, for the Oprah live Lifeclass Tour! ~

Farm girl, on the left, had been chosen to ask a question. She never got the chance to ask her question. I never did see my girls on the show.

Still, I think it was meant to be and I was meant to watch that show.  The subject was "The Power Of Forgiveness".  What would you say it is, when a woman with no TV, exhausted mentally and physically, goes to a friend's house to (maybe) see her daughters on TV and has four of the top rated speakers tell her how to do the very thing she has been praying to be able to do?   I call that divine intervention!

If you are really, really trying, I believe you do get what you need, when you need it!

  1. I watched the show to see if I could see Christie and Katie but I didnt see either. The show was great and it was Oprahs biggest crowd ever, what can we say when we Canadians do something we do it right. The show was inspiring and half way through I emailed my ex and told him to watch it, LOL. Get it forgive. Good luck Maureen and if you need help this weekend please call.

    1. The girls say they were always just out of camera range. Ilyana and Tony did put a whole new perspective on dealing with children in divorce! Thanks for the offer of help!

  2. It sounds like you are working on your challenge both physically and emotionally. Way to go. With that kind of mindset, and with family and friends like you have, I am sure you'll get beyond this ugly situation in short order.

    1. This has been a stumbling block for me for many years. I guess it's the Irish coming out! I'm determined to use this experience as a means of of learning how to forgive and carry that skill into the future.

  4. Hi Maureen,
Thanks for sharing from your heart in this post. We sure want forgiveness from others ~ why is it so hard to give sometimes? Great reminders not to allow bitterness and resentment to settle in and ruin a relationship.

  6. Wow, Maureen. Your story from the other had me in tears. So much so, that I couldn't even comment. I can't imagine the turmoil you have had to endure throughout all of this. I'm so glad you have friends that can help you through it and make you remember about the good people. :)

    1. You must be counting yourself lucky that you moved and didn't have to see any of that happen! I'm sure you could not have kept quiet about the treatment of the pets! The good people do outnumber the bad and I have to remember that.

  7. I would have loved to have been at that show...lucky girls!
"the road to forgiveness is paved in gold" and I hope that you can get there in time and I truly believe it was "divine" intervention. Good luck with the rest of your cleanup and I hope you get some rest as well.

    1. As long as I keep in mind that it is not my job to punish someone for their wrongs, I'll get there. Accountability will happen, sometime, in this life or the next!

  9. Oh dear I have read both posts and after all that hard work of cleaning the place I say bravo to you for finding forgiveness in your heart. I shall pray for a calm and clean renter this next go round. I have found that forgiveness frees me and lets me move on. I have a friend, she cuts my hair and owns a consignment store and rents about twelve houses. I call her the "slum lord" of Washington county. She makes a lot of money but has a ton of aggravation. She is about to attempt to sell those rental houses which will be hard to do.

    1. Olive, you are one of the people who inspire me on the forgiveness journey! As I read your story, my problems in the last decade seem trivial in comparison. Keep on writing!
