Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho, It's Off To Work....

I feel like one of the Seven Dwarves this week.  I "dig, dig, dig the whole day through", to turn over the veggie garden.  24' X 10 ' may not be the biggest garden in blog land but it sure seems like it when it's time to open it up for the season!

Don't laugh at my wheelbarrow.  I've had it forever and it has patina! ~

I can't stand around all day marvelling at the first Periwinkle bloom. ~

I know I keep saying it, but this is March in Ontario and we should be covered in snow!

Instead, I'm in shorts and have chives almost ready to cut! ~

Ignore the temporary edging.  It's just to mark them so they don't fall prey to my shovel.

I leave the kale in at the end of the season since I can harvest it up until Christmas. The mild winter has caused it to start growing again.  I've never seen this! ~

See this none too attractive shed that my neighbour smacked right up to the fence? ~

I keep trying to think of ways to disguise it.  To the left of the shed you can see where I started weaving a wattle fence.  That took about a week and then I decided I couldn't live long enough to ever finish it and gave up.  Today, I decided to fight shed with shed, or coop to be exact.

I bought this. ~

As soon as I figure out how to get this baby together, I have a darling, little chicken coop.  Then, I'm off to my daughter's farm to bring home some feathered friends!  I haven't had chickens since my daughters were little and I'm soooo excited!

Have a day where you do something crazy!

    1. I'm happy about the warm weather but concerned about the water levels with so little snow. I don't want a dry well!

  3. That will fix that neighbor, lol...I would love backyard chickens one day. Our weather has been all over the place here in the west...rain, hail, snow, sun and back again. Warming up to a balmy 11c on the weekend...woohoo!

    1. You will have to bust out that bathing suit. lol The neighbour has 5 acres and puts everything on my fence line. Sigh.

  4. Isn't the weather crazy? The trees are all budding here in northern NH and if this warmth keeps up we will have leaves in March! We usually don't get any leaves until mid-May! Oh, and it's funny you mentioned chickens. Last night I was telling my family I would love to get chickens! They think I'm crazy.

    1. I think I have lived in the country too long to follow those kind of rules.

  9. Chickens,...that's awesome. Please do document how that goes. I would love to have chickens but I'm always afraid of who will tend them when we travel.

  10. Love your wheelbarrow! Could you hang a wreath on the back of that shed? It might end up feeling like a focal point if you leaned a few old tools up there and found a wreath that would weather well.

Wow. Lot's of W's in that last sentence. ha!

    1. A+ for the letter W! lol The shed is about a foot back from the fence so I don't know if I can do anything with it. It looks a lot more quaint in the pic than it really is.
